What are types of periodontitis?

  • TYPES OF PRERIODONTITIS- Periodontitis is a type of gum disease, inflammation of tissue around teeth that damage soft tissue and also results in loosening of teeth. There are types of periodontitis.

  • Aggressive-Clinically healthy patient with rapid attachment loss and bone destruction.
  • Necrotizing-This lesion most commonly observed in patient having HIV infection, immunosuppression and malnutrition.
  • Periodontitis as systemic manifestation-One who have systemic disease such as diabetes, it occurs in young age patient.

Stages of periodontitis

  • Stage 1-Initial
  • Stage 2-Moderate
  • Stage 3-Severe type with potential for additional tooth loss
  • Stage 4-Advanced form with tooth loss or potential for loss of dentition

TYPES OF PRERIODONTITIS

Stage 1

                   This stage between gingivitis and periodontitis. It is early stage of attachment loss and gingival inflammation.

            Stage 2

                   It represents periodontitis in which carefully performed clinical periodontal examination.

            Stage 3                         

In this stage, periodontitis has produced significant damage to the attachment and in absence of advanced treatment, tooth may loss. It include deep periodontal lesion that extend towards middle portion of root. Furcation involvement seen.

               Stage 4

More advanced stage, it include damage to periodontal support and tooth may loss. Also loss of masticatory functions.

Diagnosis

  • The diagnosis of the presence of periodontal diseases is made on basis of clinical signs and symptoms and may be supported by evidence from radiographs.
  • Bleeding can be seen from gums during brushing and flossing and spaces between teeth.
  • Gums around the teeth shifted towards downward, roots can be visible.
