WHAT IS PARTIAL DENTURE EXACTLY?
⦁ Partial denture are removable denture, which replaces one or more teeth in the upper and lower portion of mouth.
⦁ Removable partial denture or bridge usually consist of replacement tooth attached to a pink or gum coloured plastic base, which is sometimes connected by metal frame work that hold the denture placed in mouth.
⦁ This denture fills the spaces created by missing teeth and it protect other teeth from changing its position.
⦁ It has internal attachment called as clasp that attach to other tooth crown.

INDICATION OF PARTIAL DENTURE
⦁ It is indicated in patient who have extremely reduced dentition and more teeth are missing that means more edentulous areas.
⦁ A patient who are physically and emotionally endangered.
⦁ A patient who have severe periodontitis and excessive bone loss.
⦁ It include span length, the inability to achieve adequate retention to the fixed prosthesis.
⦁ In case of congenital malformation, there is a few widely spaces are present so denture is indicated.

TYPES OF PARTIAL DENTURE ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Acrylic resin
  2. Metal cast
  3. Flexible

CAST PARTIAL DENTURE (CPD)
⦁ It is most commonly used denture.
⦁ It is a type of denture, it has cast metal frame work with acrylic resin prosthetic teeth.
⦁ It consist of a cast metal frame work with set of artificial teeth in an acrylic resin.
⦁ It is stronger, more durable and retentive.

INDICATION OF CPD:
⦁ Patient who have lost some of the tooth (partially edentulous)
⦁ Trauma to jawbone.
⦁ Patient desires.
⦁ Gum problem but other teeth are good.
⦁ Above age of 17 years.
⦁ No teeth present behind the edentulous area.

CONTRAINDICATION:
⦁ Poor oral hygiene.
⦁ Front teeth area.
⦁ Poor gum health.
⦁ Week teeth in the arch.
⦁ Rampant caries
