Gingival hypertrophy is an abnormal overgrowth of gingival tissue.
It is also called as gingival enlargement or gingival hyperplasia.
It is often symptom of poor oral hygiene or a side effect of using certain medications<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Causes of gingival hypertrophy <\/strong>
Gingival overgrowth is often caused by inflammation.
It can also be drug induced, as a side effect of prescribed medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. It include- anti-seizure drug<\/li>
  2. Immunosuppressant<\/li>
  3. Calcium channel blocker
    Other causes
    One of the most common cause is Poor oral hygiene.
    Systemic causes inflammatory gum enlargement
    Hereditary gingival fibromatosis- It is rare type of cause.
    In a systemic cause includes pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, some disease like leukemia can trigger overgrowth.
    It also includes HIV, Diabetes, Anemia and Vitamin deficiencies<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Treatment of gingival hypertrophy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Laser excision- A periodontist will use laser to remove inflamed gum tissue.<\/li>
    2. Electro surgery- Periodontist applies electric currents to your gum tissue to cut or remove what has overgrown.<\/li>
    3. It also involve periodontal flap surgery.<\/li>
    4. Gingivectomy- It includes surgical removal of gum tissue or gingiva.
      \nIt is used to remove extra gum tissue for cosmetic reason as well as to modify a smile.
      \nTreatment at home for swollen gums.
      \n\u2981 Basically for minor condition we can treat swollen gums at home also.
      \n\u2981 Mix 1 teaspoon of salt and add lukewarm water.
      \n\u2981 Rinse your mouth with this saltwater solution for 30 seconds.
      \n\u2981 Then spit it out, do not swallow it.
      \n\u2981 Do this 2 to 3 times a day until the swelling goes away.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
