Zinc oxide eugenol cements are of low strength and they are least irritating of all dental cements and are known to have an outbound effect on dentin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Types of zinc oxide eugenol cement<\/strong><br> Type I (paste)<br> \u2022    Supplied in two paste form as temporary cement<br> \u2022    Paste dispensed on the paper in equal proportion and mixed<br> Type II (powder\/liquid)<br> \u2022    ZOE cement is supplied in powder and liquid form<br> \u2022    It Is mixed on an oil resistant paper pad<br> \u2022    Mixing time of ZOE cement is 30-60 seconds<br> \u2022    Setting time of ZOE cement in the mouth is 3-5 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Composition<br><strong> Powder<\/strong><br> Zinc oxide                  69%<br> White rosin               29.3%<br> Zinc Stearate               1%<br> Zinc acetate               0.7%<br> Magnesium oxide<br> <strong>Liquid<\/strong><br> Eugenol               85%<br> Olive Oil               15%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Properties<\/strong><br> \u2022    Compressive strength- This is a relatively weak cement ranges from a low of 3-4 MPz up to 50-55 MPz<br> \u2022    Tensile strength- Tensile strength ranges from 0.32 to 5.3 MPa<br> \u2022    Modules of elasticity- 0.22 to 5.4 GPa<br> \u2022    Thermal Properties- thermal properties of ZOE are excellent<br> \u2022    Solubility and disintegration- The solubility of the set cement is the highest of all the cements, they disintegrate in oral fluids<br> \u2022    Adhesion- ZOE cement do not adhere well to the enamel and dentin, this is one reason why they are not often used for final cementation of crowns and bridges.<br> \u2022    Biological Properties- pH is 6.6-8 and they are least irritating of all the cements.
